What we do

One pass. Several answers.

A survey vehicle usually goes out to measure one thing. Ours is built to record several at once, because the cost of a journey is the same either way — and because the answers are worth more together.

The layers

01Air quality

Fixed monitoring stations are accurate and expensive, so there are few of them. Diffusion tubes are cheap and sparse. Between them sits most of a town.

We measure at street level, along the routes people actually breathe on — building a picture at the resolution planning decisions are made at, rather than interpolating between two reference points on opposite sides of a borough.

Where it fits — local air quality management, air quality action plans, exposure assessment, scheme business cases.

02Road surface and street assets

The same journey that samples the air also sees the road and everything beside it. Carriageway condition, and an inventory of the assets a highways team is required to know about — signs, lighting columns, drainage furniture, footway extent.

Authorities report on these asset classes and consistently say the blocker is the cost of collecting the data. When it comes off a pass you were already making, that cost changes shape.

03Building heat loss

Energy performance is mostly modelled — inferred from a building’s age, construction and a handful of assumptions. The gap between modelled and actual performance is well documented and it is large.

We measure the thermal signature of a street as it is, so retrofit targeting can start from observation rather than inference.

And the layer underneath

Every reading carries where it came from, when, by what method, and how confident we are in it. That sounds like housekeeping. It is the difference between a map you can put in a business case and one you cannot.

It also means measured passes can be fused with open and statutory data — energy performance registers, national mapping, reference monitoring networks, satellite observation — into one layer where the provenance of every number is still legible.

What we don’t do

We don’t detect methane. That’s a specialist field with strong incumbents doing it well, and we work alongside them rather than against them. We’d rather be honest about the edge of our capability than sell past it.
